NFL Power Rankings for Week 6

Let’s get right into it for this week. I think quite bit of movement happened this week, with the exception of the teams up top.

32. Carolina Panthers (0-5) Last Week: 30

After that awful display by both the Bears and the Panthers in that game last week I don’t see how anyone can think the Panthers are anything but the worst team in the NFL. They picked off the ball 4 times against Todd Collins and they were only able to score 6 points. It was just a terrible game played by two terrible teams, and the Panthers showed that they were the worst of the two. Yuck.

31. Buffalo Bills (0-5) Last Week:32

I really thought the Bills were going to win that game last week the way it started out, but the Jaguars are looking frisky so far this season by beating the Colts and coming back against the Bills (although coming back against the Bills isn’t really that much of an accomplishment). Bills move up out of the cellar because they actually scored points and because of how awful the Panthers played.

30. San Francisco 49ers (0-5) Last Week: 28

What a mess. This 49ers teams is inexplicable. They have good players at seemingly every position with one exception. Of course that exception happens to be the most important position in football (the Quarterback). I think Singletary is just about done with this team. If they don’e get it together this week, I really think they’re gonna have to blow things up in San Francisco and try to find a different QB and coach.

29. Cleveland Browns (1-4) Last Week: 24

The two quarterbacks they have that have been playing are both injured now and they aren’t very good. I can only imagine how bad this team will be with Peyton Hillis hurt and a rookie Colt McCoy (who wasn’t really that great in college. People need to quit kidding themselves about his college greatness) gets under center this weekend.

28. Arizona Cardinals (3-2) Last Week: 31

I can’t move them up any higher than this. The game against the Saints was a fluke, and I don’t know how good the Saints actually are at the moment. This team is terrible, and I actually believe they are the worst team in the NFC West, even though they’re in first place. That division is extremely messed up.

27. Seattle Seahawks (2-2) Last Week: 27

They stayed the same. They’re still bad. Let’s move on.

26. St. Louis Rams (2-3) Last Week: 18

Here’s a pretty big drop. So much for that sneaky-good defense that everyone seemed to be talking about. Nobody seemed to mention who this team played when they were playing “good defense”. Well here’s a list: Arizona, Oakland, Washington, Seattle (at St. Louis). All of those teams have stagnant offenses. The only team out of that list that can do anything well is the Raiders with their running game. Needless to say the Rams played an offense that actually has some playmakers in the Lions and were beaten 44-6.

25. Oakland Raiders (2-3) Last Week: 29

I got to give it to them. They found a way to take advantage of the terrible special teams play of the Chargers and pulled off an upset. They’ll probably hover around this spot in the rankings every week, but let’s admit that this spot is a big improvement over what they would have been with Jamarcus Russell still at the helm.

24. Detroit Lions (1-4) Last Week: 26

I raise them two spots this week and I’m pretty sure by the end of the year they’re going to be somewhere in the teens. As I said last week, they have terrible luck. Now they have Calvin Johnson injured. I say after this teams bye week, some teams really need to look out. Suh (I’m not even going to try with his first name) is a complete monster by the way.

23. Cincinnati Bengals (2-3) Last Week: 15

Carson Palmer is not a good quarterback (stating the obvious).

22. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-2) Last Week: 25

They’re not very impressive. They beat a Bills team that is flat out not good. And they weren’t even very convincing in the victory.

21. Dallas Cowboys (1-3) Last Week: 20

20. Minnesota Vikings (1-3) Last Week: 19

I’m putting the Vikings and Cowboys in basically the same spot because that’s pretty much what these teams are. I think the Vikings are the better team now with Moss joining he fray and having the best running back in the league. No one seems to be talking very much about how well the Vikings moved the ball on that great Jets defense. Everyone is calling the game between these two teams the best game between a couple of 1-3 teams ever. You know what I say? They’re still 1-3 teams, and I don’t care very much. Hopefully the fan base of the losing side will shut up about their team for once after Sunday. I’m fairly sick of the overhyping of both of these teams.

19. San Diego Chargers (2-3) Last Week: 11

I don’t understand this team. So I’ll just move on.

18. Denver Broncos (2-3) Last Week: 13

I’m probably going to say this multiple times, but there is no way that Kyle Orton will keep up the pace to break Dan Marino’s record in passing yards. NO WAY. It’s KYLE ORTON. KYLE ORTON!

17. Philadelphia Eagles (3-2) Last Week: 17

Another team that stayed put. They need to get healthy. I think they could possible be the best team in the NFC east is they do.

16. Chicago Bears (4-1) Last Week: 16

I still can’t move this team higher than 16. There’s not a chance anyone could convince me that this team is as good as it’s record indicates. That game against the Panthers was just an awful, terrible, no good pile of crap. I hope a team this bad doesn’t make the playoffs. I especially don’t want a team with Mike Martz as one of the coaches to make the playoffs.

15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1) Last Week: 23

I had to find a team to put ahead of the Bears here. I’m not buying in on these guys but I’m buying in on them more than I’m buying the Bears (which is not at all).

14. Washington Redskins (3-2) Last Week: 21

This team is showing some fight. Shanahan has to be a good coach if this roster is performing. LaRon Landry is having a really good year as well.

13. Miami Dolphins (2-2) Last Week: 12

Why not?

12. Green Bay Packers (3-2) Last Week: 8

There are so many injuries for this team that it’s getting pretty ridiculous. This is a sign of the realization of how much better the AFC is than the NFC.

11. Kansas City Chiefs (3-1) Last Week: 10

The Chiefs showed that their defense is not a fluke against the Colts. Dwayne Bowe, on the other hand, showed that he is not a good receiver. If he doesn’t start performing I would be surprised if the Chiefs cut him. The Chiefs should have covered in that Colts game by the way (stupid Mike Hart scoring a touchdown).

10. New Orleans Saints (3-2) Last Week: 5

They lost to the Cardinals. They can move back up my list next week if they make a statement (meaning destroy) the Buccaneers this weekend.

9. Houston Texans (3-2) Last Week: 9

I couldn’t move them up because they lost so bad, and certain teams moving down (the Saints) didn’t really allow me to move them down.

8. Tennessee Titans (3-2) Last Week: 14

Chris Johnson has more yards at this point of the season this year than he did last year. This team just need to find some consistency (and good) play from Vince Young and they’ll be very good.

7. New York Giants (3-2) Last Week: 22

This is the biggest jump in the rankings. I believe the Giants are a very good team. I also believe that when they don’t play up to their potential, they can be absolutely awful. Honestly, they should probably just be put right in the middle of the rankings and stay there no matter what, because once you start believing this team is good, they go out and stink the joint up.

6. Indianapolis Colts (3-2) Last Week: 7

Peyton Manning doesn’t really look right so far this season, but he’s still Peyton Manning and until things completely fall apart for this team, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

5. New England Patriots (3-1) Last Week: 6

I’m assuming that Belicheck and company know what they are doing and will continue to be a very good team without Randy Moss. We’ll see in their first game without him in the lineup.

Alright. So nothing in my top four has changed so I’m going to just list them off because, quite frankly, I’m tired of writing this list. Plus, I don’t really feel like I need to say anything because nothing has changed, except that the number one team is getting it’s starting QB back this week.

4. New York Jets (4-1)

3. Baltimore Ravens (4-1)

2. Atlanta Falcons (4-1)

1. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1)

Okay. There’s my rankings. I’ll do them again next week.
